Northern Ireland’s largest hospitality group, Beannchor has announced a big commitment to boosting its green credentials with the introduction of biodegradable straws and compostable takeaway cups across its portfolio.
Northern Ireland’s largest hospitality group, Beannchor has announced a big commitment to boosting its green credentials with the introduction of biodegradable straws and compostable takeaway cups across its portfolio.
Top venues including The Merchant Hotel, Bullitt Belfast, The National & Sixty6, Little Wing Pizzeria and The Dirty Onion will ditch throwaway single-use plastic products including straws and plastic-lined coffee cups in favour of more environmentally friendly versions.
The move comes off the back of a global movement to eliminate plastic drinking straws, coffee cups and other plastic waste from landfills, oceans and beaches.
On an annual basis, Beannchor venues use over 500,000 straws and over 50,000 takeaway cups. The move to fully biodegradable versions of these products is part of the Group’s ethical sourcing policy.
Any additional costs incurred in the sourcing of the new eco-friendly products will be absorbed by Beannchor and will not be passed onto the consumer.
As the largest hospitality group in Northern Ireland, Beannchor is committed to ensuring that we continually review our sourcing policies to ensure we are making the best possible choices. We are proud to be implementing this Group-wide initiative, which will dramatically reduce the amount of plastic waste generated by our venues.
